Fujairah photos

The port of Fujairah is one of the most important in the United Arab Emirates and a popular refueling stop for many ships. Your cruise ship will dock at an unsightly container port, so make sure to book one of the shore excursions. Photo © 2007 Bart de Boer After disembarkation, your coach will drive through the expansive port area and then sets off on a tour along the coast. To the right is the manicured look of neighboring emirate Sjarjah. Photos © 2007 Bart de Boer

A popular stop is the Al Bidya Mosque, dating back to the 1600s and the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates. Views from the fortress on the nearby hill are quite breathtaking. Photos © 2007 Bart de Boer

Famous all around the Emirates is Masafi's Friday Market. It stretches along the main road for about a mile and is the place to shop for touristy trinkets, carpets and fruits. Expect to shop in peace: you will not be harassed and everyone speaks English. Photos © 2007 Bart de Boer
