The expansive Montmartre Restaurant on Modigliani Deck is Costa Allegra's main dining room
and is reached by a staircase (and elevators) from a
colorful lobby on the deck above, where the Flamenco
Ballroom next door just happens to serve the best pre-dinner
cocktails. So no more waiting in line until
the restaurant doors open! |

Most meals in
the Montmartre Restaurant are served in two seatings, with the
late seating being around 9:00 PM in European waters.
Considering
Costa's Italian heritage, late seating truly means LATE! The
restaurant has a capacity of 474 persons and is decorated in
what vaguely resembles a French bistro style. With its
minimalist decorations, lack of window treatments and basic
furniture, the Montmartre Restaurant is one of my least
favorite rooms on Costa Allegra. |

However,
a dining room's popularity is all about the food and
service; not so much the decoration. Enjoying lunch on
board, I found the staff very attentive and the food good.

Don't expect haute cuisine
though - the food served on Costa ships is best described as standard fare with
some Italian influences. Presentation and quality of the ingredients is generally a
notch above the European competitors though. And even though Costa Cruises is
now part of the big Carnival family, be sure to order as many pasta dishes as
humanly possibly - they are excellent.
Service from an international
dining room staff is generally good, but it seems odd to put so much emphasis on
an Italian experience if 90% of the service staff is not Italian. Which means
your Philippine waiter will probably look very uncomfortable singing "O
Sole Mio" in his Italian costume...! |
